i normally tell people 'have a good day", have a good afternoon, have a goodnight....depending on which shift i work...but it just seems silly....because they will have a good night...

Good manners & Politeness are always in order.

Good manners also dictate that a sales person treat all customers
with the same courtesy regardless of their purchase

also never assume. my mother once got upset finding a bill in
dad's trousers for a package. He showed her his gun collection
in the shed , which all now wore extra protection from dust and insects.

I once made the mistake when I was younger of purchasing a box of condoms and a big bag of Reese's Pieces at a Wal-Mart. The guy behind the register (just a few years older than myself at the time) began singing "Sex and Candy," which had recently been released. It was SO embarassing at the time, but now I think it's super funny.

It's a tough position .. a little awkward .. back in the day, I just used to say: "you go get 'em tiger .. and come back later tell me everything in perfect detail - videos are appreciated" As they walked out, I would make whistiling and cheering noises. I found this to be the most polite, sensitive way - and the customers seem to really appreciate it, they way they'd run out of there all charged up!

thats a tough one, depends who it is. if two dudes came in all giggly you should tell them thats gross and not sell them anything! then theres the age old dilema - what if it's your mom? tell her she should have wrapped it years ago and you wouldn't be stuck selling condoms now. a priest? call the damn cops. two chicks? hmmmmm, tell them to swing by my place! school lunch lady - yuck, no more for me please.
