At any age, cutting out junk food and empty calories is a good idea. You don't have to be drastic, but that will make a HUGE difference in your weight. Ideally, your entire family could try to cut down on unhealthy things, and that way you could all be healthy, and you wouldn't have to be denied something the rest of your family is enjoying. Eat fresh fruits and vegetables (not canned, not creamed vegetables, not fruit with syrup). Switch to whole-grains. Cut back on fats, sugars, and processed foods.
Drink lots of water (my husband and I and our kids are hooked on the flavored waters, as long as you get the kind that doesn't have extra sweeteners in it, it's a great way to make sure you're getting water). Also, decaf unsweet tea (if you can handle the unsweet) is a way to get water.
Get exercise. Off-season, run, ride your bike, dance, whatever. No one has to watch you, so find something that's FUN to do, even if you think it's silly or stupid or "gay". Work with weights (get help with them, so you are doing weight training safely).
Have fun, and I hope things work out for you! You'll be doing such a good thing for yourself, and it's something that will have an impact on when you're an adult!

At 13 you should just go outside and run around with your friends. Play baseball or basketball. Try riding your bike around the neighborhood. Also make sure you lay off the junk food and soda. I was watching a show where I saw one woman drank soda all day long. She cut out the soda and lost 30 lbs. That's a good place to start.

Cut out carbs like white bread, and any other bread product, no tortillas, don't eat anything with sugar definately no soda pop, no white rice, no chips. Do not eat anything with white flour. Eat lots of vegetables and fruit, legumes (beans) are good too. You are young so you need to continue to eat enough protein (Meat and dairy), so you can continue to build muscle and have strong bones. If you do this you will remain healthy and weight will fall off.

You should get yourself the free Science of Fat DVD. It will show you how the brain and body regulate weight and why some people are hefty while others are lean.

This may sound gay to you, but I'm 15 and I love it! Play Dance Dance Revolution for a while. It's fun and it doesn't really feel like exercise.
