You can try the patches or the gum....I've heard the patches work well. When I quit, I'd been smoking for about 16 years, stopping only during pregnancies. I'd quit a couple of other times, but I always started back up.
The best advice I can give you is that when you're truly ready to quit, you will. I wanted to quit and what did it was I was going on a cruise to celebrate my mother's birthday. No one else going smoked but me and I hated the idea that I'd always have to leave the fun to have a cigarette (so's not to bother anyone else). So I said I might as well quit now and decided to stop as soon as I finished that last pack...well driving home one evening, just as I was getting ready to light up (you know smoking while a driving was a must!), I looked at the pack and said' "Well if I'm going to quit after these last five, I might as well stop now!" and I crumbled them up and tossed them out. That was on 1998 and I haven't smoked since. It definitely takes willpower and the right mindset but you can do it! I quit cold turkey, and the first couple of months was probably the hardest because I'd go to a neighborhood store and they would automatically pull out a pack of cigarettes for me. You have to just get it in your mind, that you are no longer going to smoke and just do it!
Good luck!

I am in the process of quiting as well, but I am doing it cold turkey. I know that for myself, I have to stay away from the bar scene and limit my exposure to friends and family that smoke. I am planning on getting the last stage patch, just in case I have an erg because otherwise I will just start smoking again. You could also get the gum, I have a friend that uses the gum, but she says that after a while it hurt her mouth. Good Luck and Stay Strong.

Get yourself a goal something to get in shape for you'll have a reason to give up and feel better! I gave up a two pack a day habbit so you shouldnt have a problem!
Good luck

Your method could work if you had the will power to stick to it.
The sooner you can quit the better.
Nothing worked permanently for me (30 years smoking) until I got a prescription for welbutrin (zyban) This is a pill that you take under direction and smoke as usual, by about a week, you get no pleasure from a cigarette, you might as well suck on a pencil.
So you stop smoking.Keep taking the pills for a total of 30 days and you probably will never have the craving again, no pysical craving, no mental craving.
Good luck, it's well woth it

It's hard to quit cold turkey. I have smoked for 19 yrs. I'm trying to quit because I have lung disease know. With the help of a D.R. you can do it. Just picture yourself carrying an oxygen tank around. When I visualize my self doing that it. It's not something I would want to do. See a D.R. they can help you. Best of Luck.

beleive it or not cold turkey did work for me and i was a 2 pack a day smoker.
what i did was pick a day that met something to me. in my case it was my birthday. it can be a holiday, aniversery, etc.
make a big deal out of it. tell everyone.
prepare yourself. maybe you can cut down a bit before the big day.
when the big day arrives do it. don't smoke. have a celebration. every day gets easier.
once a year you get to celebrate success on your special day.
i called it my birthday gift to myself

I stopped smoking in six months after having smoked for more than 20 years.
It was easy and painless! and Now, I haven't smoked in over a year!
you can do this method:
So, if you want to stop smoking, switch your brand down by .3 mg of nicotine every two weeks until you get to a Carlton King Size or a Now King Size. Let's say you are smoking a Marlboro. Switch down every two weeks like this:
Marlboro-----------------------1.1 mg nicotine
Marlboro Light-----------------.8 mg nicotine
Merit Ultra Light---------------.5 mg nicotine
Carlton or Now 100-----------.2 mg nicotine
Carlton or Now Kings--------.1 mg nicotine
If you are smoking a Kool or a Newport, switch down every two weeks like this: (all mentions are menthol)
Kool or Newport------------------------1.2 mg nicotine
Newport Lights-------------------------.9 mg nicotine
Merit King Size-------------------------.6 mg nicotine
Carlton 100's----------------------------.3 mg nicotine
Carlton King Size----------------------.1 mg nicotine
or buy Quest brand cigarettes at #1 until you're smoking NO MORE THAN your usual amount then switch down to #2 until you're smoking NO MORE THAN your usual amount and then finally to #3 again until you're smoking NO MORE THAN your usual amount then you just... stop.
I used a combination of these methods I used the first method until i was smoking then .6 mlg cigs then switched to the Quest #1. three months after being on the quest programme I didn't need to smoke. january first of 2006 was my first totally smoke free day since I was 14 years old. I'm STILL smoke free and I will be from now on.
Good luck to you!!
