Is it required for the grooms father to wear a tuxedo to his sons wedding? Can he wear a suit or dress shirt and tie instead? The father is not an usher in the wedding. The tuxedo would cost over $100 to rent and the father does not have a lot of money to spend.

my fiance's dad's not, he's not being anything in the wedding except the father so he doesn't need one, my dad is tho cuz hes walkin me down and he needs to look extra spiffy, but their is no need to rent a tux in your situation! a nice suit would suffice!

It is not neccesary for you to wear a tuxedo. A nice suit will do just as well. A lot depends on the formality of the wedding. If the bride & groom insist you have a tux, tell them they will have to pay for it as your budget doesn't allow for it. What happened to the days where even the groom & all male attendants wore their best (only)suit? I think some of the stuff they do in weddings today is dumb & pretentious anyway. They are no less married if Dad wears a suit. My husband, father & best man all wore their suits. My gown was borrowed from one friend, my veil from another, white Bible from another & my Mom made my wedding cake. I had a beautiful wedding, still felt beautiful & special & it didn't break the bank. The reception was held at my parent's house & everyone declared the cake the best they had ever eaten. My second one, my husband & I went to the J.P. I had made my dress & wore a corsage. I did my own hair & nails & looked & felt beautiful. My husband wore his best suit & looked very handsome. The reception was at our home the next afternoon & had about 50 people there, spur of the moment, I made the cake & a great time was had by all.

My father in law to be wore a suit, and he is the one who preformed the wedding. I think it depends on the grooms father, now the brides father needs to dress nicer if he's going to walk the bride down the aisle.

Fathers are treated as members of the wedding party so they should be dressed in the same attire as the rest of the men.

My father wore a really nice suit, dress shirt and tie... he also didn't have enough money for a tuxedo and he looked fabulous.

It's YOUR wedding and no one elses. I personally think it's rude to expect everyone else to go over and beyond their budget because you have expensive tastes. If you want the groom's father to wear a pink and yellow striped bikini, it's your day and no one else's business!! As long as he looks nice in his suit, who cares? Besides...that's one less person you'll have to worry about looking better than you on your day. ;-)

A suit will be just fine.

Usually the groom's father is gussied-up in posh, ultra formal weddings. (or when he can afford it)
