Maybe I'm spelling it wrong? It was a dark red candy, square, and tasted like strong black licorice.

Anise Candy
2 cups sugar
1/2 white corn syrup
1/2 cup water
1/2 teaspoon anise flavoring
1/2 teaspoon red food coloring or green food coloring
Boil sugar, syrip and water until hard crack stage when dipped in cold water.
Remove from heat.
Add flavoring and food color.
Shake pan to mix, do not stir.
Pour onto a cooking sheet.
Cut at once.

You are not spelling it wrong. It is sold mostly during the Christmas holidays and given to children from "St. Nicholas", however, I just happened to see it in the candy section at Marshalls in Minnesota. It appears that they are now making it for Valentine's Day and other holidays. You won't find this candy at most retailers, it is a specialty item. I think you will find it at Macy's and Herberger's though. Hope it helped a little bit, the candy is awesome!
