If Wiccan and Druid groups in your city or town applied for a permit to have a Pagan Pride Parade down Main St., would you urge your representatives to deny the permit or sign a petition to have the parade stopped? Would you sign a petition urging the city or town council to approve the parade? Or would you just sit back and see what happens?

Why?

Absolutely Not!!!!! Pagans have every right to be proud and to show it just as any other belief system. Would you deny a Christian Pride parade? A Muslim Pride parade? A Jewish Pride parade??? No you wouldn't, so why single out Pagans? Just because some of you are misinformed about pagans and what they believe, should have no bearing on allowing some to show their pride in their beliefs.

Couple of comments--

First, anyone who thinks pagans are peaceful is pretending that the backbiting and infighting in our community doesn't exist.

Second, not all pagans are Wiccans, so those 161 laws don't mean anything to the majority of us.

As for PPDs, I've participated in them from Pittsburgh to Seattle, and I've found them to be highly enjoyable events, both as a workshop presenter and vendor, and as a general participant. It's a great way to get the community together for fun, without any spiritual agendas (ie, who gets to invoke whom, how the ritual will be organized, etc.). Plus it's a good way to meet other pagans, especially if you have the misconception that you're the only one in your area.

I would absolutely JOIN the parade. I have been pagan for more than 25 years.

This is American, correct? We ALL have the right to free speech and freedom of religion. You don't have to agree, and you certainly do not have to attend, but you cannot deny our RIGHT.

By the way, Wicca is a recognized religion of the US federal government.

I would let it happen, and point and laugh.
Wiccans... bloody hell, it shows you have much the religion has changed in the past... well the whole 50 years of existence. And Neo-Druid groups, there is not direct link to original druidic practice.

Heres a quote:
"If you'd ever read Wicca's 161 laws, you'd know that you're not supposed to claim Wicca as a religion -- in fact, you're supposed to preach that witchcraft is evil and deny that you practice it. But then you wouldn't be able to campaign for Sabbats off at work or send angry letters to your senators... let alone wear plate-sized pentacles to get attention!" - by a Wiccan angry at Wiccans

would you work to stop a Buddhist or Jewish pride parade?
it does not matter where you live or travel people will have different beliefs than you or the majority of people. the thing that makes people want to stop things like a parade is lack of knowledge and understanding of things that are different.
people are proud of what they are and believe and to deny them the same freedoms as you have is wrong.

I would rather see a Pagan Pride parade than most other religions. Pagan religions are some of the most peacefull and tolorant there are. If they want to have a parade, let them!

No, I wouldn't try to prevent the parade, unless what they are proposing to do is illegal, in which case they wouldn't get a permit.
They are entitled to their own beliefs and opinions, whether I agree with them or not.

Why would it matter? It is not a message of hate. I would be more concerned about a KKK rally than a Pagan one. I might even swing by to see what it is all about.

Well first of all, it would be too small to notice. But secondly, what basis would there be to deny them? We don't like their silly superstitions as much as our own silly superstitions? We could use more parades anyway.
