if you were garanteed that you could meet your true love but you had to learn chinese first - would you do it? It is not that the true love is Chinese it is just a test to see if you would be willing to work for "it"?

Hahahaha! Where do you come up with these things? :)

Yes, yes, yes....I would soooo do it. Especially since there is a guarantee. Plus, I would be bilingual and that's always a plus, ya know?

Gosh...do they have a book called "Learn the Entire Chinese Language in 5 Days or Less"? Hmm...maybe sunliminal therapy or hypnosis. Yeah, I can be a bit lazy...and I can admit that.

Because I don't think I could focus...knowing that my one true love was at the end of my studies.

Good one roady!!

Yes, I would...I've learned a bit of Chinese already, simply because I am very interested in the culture and heritage of the Chinese people and I have a pretty large collection of many Chinese objects. But then, it doesn't take much incentive for me to want to learn something...German was a language I also taught myself as well as French...very limited mind you but my husband is German and a good friend is French. I've explored Spanish (a friend in the US is part Spanish) but haven't yet really dug into it too much. Label me Jill of all Trades, Mistress of none! :)

I would learn Chinese just for the sake of knowing how to speak another language, but not for a reason like that!

given the difficulty of learning to read, write and speak the Chinese language, i would have to be absolutely 100% sure that it was true love and that he would never leave.
In other words, no.

I fell in love with a Turkish girl (i was 18, she was 17) and i learned her language, word by word, from her. It bonded us closer than ever. So, i speak Turkish for love.

Chinese would be the same story.

Call me silly, but I'm trying to learn German and I haven't met him yet either, atleast your guaranteed. This way if we don't meet , I still would have gained a little insight into the German language.
Alas, all is not lost.

I would do it in a heartbeat, and enjoy every minute of it. You can have a lot of fun with a partner learning there language and culture and they will love you more for trying so hard. Enjoy it and have fun, take care Heather
