The ink would make a mess, but it won't harm the dog. Just make sure that there are no pen parts lodged in your dog's mouth or throat. Hopefully, if your dog swallowed any pen parts, they'll pass harmlessly.
The lead in a pencil is potentially more harmful to a dog than the ink in a pen.

Ink today is made from non-toxic materials. The reason? Small children like to chew the pens too! So no the ink pen would not have harmed her - although it may have given her a bad taste and little bit of mild indigestion.

It's always hard to lose and animal - I've lost several just to old age or to severe chronic illnesses. It's never easier. Don't let yourself believe that you could have made her live longer if she hadn't chewed that pen. If there was no other signs of anything else being eaten - then she just passed naturally in her sleep. Which is a very peaceful.

Actually, pencils are made of graphite, lead is a misnomer, and graphite is harmless.

If the pen hurt your dog, you would have known it. The ink wouldn't have, but broken pen parts, had they been fatal, would have cut her digestive system someplace, opening it up to the sterile body, and she would have gone septic. She would have gotten very sick, and suffered miserably, and there's no way you wouldn't have known about it.

You were blessed to have a dog that simply went to sleep. She was blessed to have a peaceful passing at home, where she knew she was most safe and loved.

I'm sorry for your loss.

It's possible that eating the ink pen had something to do with your dog's death, but not really likely. Boxers rarely live past 13 years anyway. And if her death had something to with the ink in the pen, then you would probably be noticing signs of toxicity before she died -- like throwing up, shaking, seizures, etc. -- she probably wouldn't just die in her sleep if it was from being poisoned. I think you're safe to say that your dog died of old age.

Well since she was old maybe her immune system couldn't take all the ink. Or maybe it was just her time to go. Sorry! She did die right?

Some of the sharp pieces may have punctured something inside or gotten lodged in her esophagus.
Sorry to hear about your loss!
