I am in Florida and I believe they suspend your licence until you pay it...it should say on the back of the ticket.

Warrant issued for your arrest. I got one for parking at the beach one time and forgot to put money in the meter.

I think the days of ignoring an out of state ticket are gone.
They cooperate now and get you in your home state.

Praticically all states now have reciprocal agreements with other states in helping collect outstanding fines, so they will nail you when you renew you driver's license, brake tag, or when you get pick up for another traffic/parking offense, be it in your home state, or another state.

they can suspend your licenses and possible put a warrant out for you
