So I went to the doctor because I have had nose and chest congestion (with wheezing) for a while now. He did an allergy test on me and everything came back fine. He says I just have rhinoitis and Im just sensitive to things and that is what is clogging me up. My question is when did this come about, im 26 and Ive never had this problem in my life except for this past half year and its getting very annoying, im coughing and wheezing some and my nose is clogged up everyday now. He gave me Rhinocort and Nasonex to use but instead of my nose feeling like its un-clogging it feels like it is getting worse...Does anyone have any suggestions or has anyone ever gone through this before...Thanks!

1. Do you smoke cigarettes ? Have a cat ? A dog? You may have developed an allergy to these things (or something else in the environment) after many years of not having an allergy. This happened to me with cigarettes and cats.

If you have changed jobs recently there may be a problem with the work environment air quality that is causing this.

2. Are you keeping your furnace filters clean? They trap dirt, dust, and allergens from the air, but if left unchanged, start to harbor MOLD and MILDEW. Bad, bad, for rhinitus. Make sure they are changed every month or every other month, especially in the winter (since it's drier and dustier).

3. Is mold forming in the home anywhere ? Check bathrooms, tile/grout, plants or moisture leaking into the home. The basement will get damp if the downspouts outside the home aren't long enough and get the rain/snow melt away from the foundation of the home.

3. Steam yourself at night and in the morning, get in the bathroom and turn on the hot shower and breathe it in. The tissues in the nose need to keep moist to fight off infection. The doc should have told you that. (Don't over-do on the humidifying in the house, it could make the situation worse with mold).

4. Also, make sure you have a varied diet, lots of fruits and vegetables that take care of skin and related tissue.

Hope these ideas help. We have a neighbor that has Rhinitus but she has a cat and refuses to give it up.

Can you get a second medical opinion?
If your allergy tests didn't show that you are allergic to any substance, how come you are "just sensitive to things".
That's what an allergy is: sensitivity to things.
It's really important for you to find out what "thing" are causing the problem - often things like cats; pets; household dust.
The fact that not only your nose is clogged but that you are coughing and wheezing seems to indicate it needs further tests.
Also, sometimes a person can be "allergic" to the medication they are using so I agree that you should try different types of medications.
For temporary relief - put boiling water in a bowl and inhale the steam. You can put a clean t-towel over your head as you inhale - the steam will help any type of clogged up nasal passages. But please don't put your face too close to the hot water and scald yourself... keep your face about a foot or more away.
Another thing to help the symptoms (but not cure) is a Vicks inhaler stick.
I wish you luck with this because it sounds that it is not only annoying but painful......
Also, check on the internet - there might be some more useful information.
Take care

Rhinocort and Nasonex take several weeks to produce any sort of relief. Try Claritin Allergy or go back and ask the doctor for Allegra if Claritin doesn't help. I was prescribed Nasonex about two years ago but the nasal spray just made my nose more clogged up. Some people can't use nasal sprays.

From all I've read here, your statements and the other answers you've gotten, your rhinitis may be allergic rhinitis. We all have allergies. We are not always exposed to our allergens or exposed to a degree that triggers a reaction. If you are allergic to cat dander, it may be that you've finally reached your tolerance level. Have you tried oral systemic allergy medicine? Claritin-D, for example, is OTC. It contains an antihistamine and a nasal decongestant. Combined with the Rhinocort & Nasonex it may do the trick. Desensitization to what ails you may work. Repeated exposure to your allergens may help you to become less sensitive to them. However, there's no 100% guarantee this will work but it often does. Do you know for a fact that you were also tested for cat dander?

Sorry don't really have an answer... just sending some "support"... I feel for you. I have had allergy tests done and they showed nothing as well and my sinuses keep getting worse and worse. I am getting more sensitive to smells of things like magic markers, etc. too. I have been on antibiotics awhile for sinus infection. I have tried about everything... not sure if all my doctors are whacked or this is just a hard thing to treat.

I kind of know how your feeling. After 25 years, I've just found out that I'm now allergic to dust. To the point that I have to take an antihistamine every morning and am getting allergy shots. If I don't, I'm completely stuffed up and headachy.

Anyways, you might want to try sleeping with a vaporizer in your room. The steam will help open up your airways. You can also ad vicks to it to help with the chest congestion.

Peel slowly. My chum pulled it off incredibly speedy one time and the nostril on her dermis began bleeding. start up on the perimeters and peel slowly, then wash your face with lukewarm water.

You have bigger problems than what you're describing.
Couple the fact that your NOSE RUNS, and your FEET SMELL, you're obviously built upside down.
