If it's a fullsize van, it is directly behind the engine. You should be able to access it from the top by removing the console between the front seats. If it is a Caravan, it has a transversely mounted engine (front wheel drive). It will be under the engine, towards the driver's side. You can buy a Chilton's or Haynes manual for about $10 at any auto parts store to walk you through the procedure.

The transmission is bolted to the back end of the engine. The drive shaft to the rear wheels comes out the back of the transmission. The neutral safety/back up light switch is on the driver's side just above the rear corner of the transmission pan. It has a plug with 3 wires plugged into it. The outer wires are for the back up lights, the inner wire is grounded in park or neutral to complete the connection so you can start the engine. Chances are the linkage is worn and not allowing the switch to ground. Check that first because in all my years of working on Dodges, I have fixed more worn out linkage than switches. BTW you need a special socket to remove the switch.

Well, it's that huge thing bolted onto the back end of your engine, and the drive shaft is bolted to the other end of it. But your neutral safety switch may not be there, it may be on the linkage up under the dash. Best to find out first.

But I agree with a previous answer, if you can't something as big as the transmission, don't bother looking for something as small as a switch. Have someone else do it for you.

My subject could be your brakes. they might fail while you're declining in elevations. i might have them regarded at first no longer less than. A trailer hitch for the van and probable a tow dolly on your nissan. Use warning with a tow dolly nonetheless as that's low and the ramps are steep. you would be able to would desire to step as much as the ramps with some 2x6 block so which you do no longer scrape the front.

The transmission is mounted to the back of the motor. The driveshaft is attached to the back side of the transmission also.

if you can find the transmission, dont even bother trying to fix it, take it to a mechanic. you should not work on a vehicle if you cant find a transmission
