We need the Holy Spirit to understand the Word of God

the Holy Spirit does not bear witness of Himself. He bears witness of the Son (John 15:26).

The Holy Spirit indwells the believer (Rom. 8:11) and continues to work in him to bring about sanctification (Rom. 15:16).

The Holy Spirit illuminates the mind of the believer (1 Cor. 2:12,13) and reveals to Him the things of God (1 Cor. 2:10,13; 1 John 2:27).

The Comforter is not a Man
You know him
He dwells with you
He will be in you
He stays with you forever

And everyone present was filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in other languages, as the Holy Spirit gave them this ability.
Godly Jews from many nations were living in Jerusalem at that time. When they heard this sound, they came running to see what it was all about, and they were bewildered to hear their own languages being spoken by the believers.
They were beside themselves with wonder. "How can this be?" they exclaimed. "These people are all from Galilee, and yet we hear them speaking the languages of the lands where we were born! Here we are-Parthians, Medes, Elamites, people from Mesopotamia, Judea, Cappadocia, Pontus, the province of Asia, Phrygia, Pamphylia, Egypt, and the areas of Libya toward Cyrene, visitors from Rome (both Jews and converts to Judaism), Cretans, and Arabians. And we all hear these people speaking in our own languages about the wonderful things God has done!" They stood there amazed and perplexed. "What can this mean?" they asked each other.
Acts 2:4-12

God the Holy Spirit uses his chosen vessels to speak to us THROUGH the vessel to us. Jesus made it clear that the Holy Spirit IS the comforter who would come "not many DAYS from now IN JERUSALEM. Pointing to the outpouring mentioned above.

You obviously don't know the Bible that well, if you didn't realize that God the Spirit can speak:

--------------------------------------------------------
While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, "Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them."
~Acts 13:2 (NIV)

While Peter was still thinking about the vision, the Spirit said to him, "Simon, three men are looking for you."
~Acts 10:19 (NIV)

In those days Peter stood up among the believers (a group numbering about a hundred and twenty) and said, "Brothers, the Scripture had to be fulfilled which the Holy Spirit spoke long ago through the mouth of David concerning Judas, who served as guide for those who arrested Jesus— he was one of our number and shared in this ministry."
~Acts 1:15-17 (NIV)

Nope, not a prophet - prophets don't abide with your forever. They die - they are human. The comforter is the Spirit of God who will speak to you in tongues of fire or the small whisper of a dove. You have to give your life to Christ Jesus in order for the Holy Spirit to enter into your heart so that you can hear Him.

Hi:

This promise is given to the disciples by Jesus shortly before his death. He is telling them that even though he will no longer be with them, he will send a Helper to them who would help them do 3 things.
a) Recall the things which Jesus taught them while he was with them.
b) Teach them things which Jesus wanted them to know, but at that time they were no ready or able to understand them.
c) Teach them of things to come.

This is why we believe the New Testament scriptures are the Word of God.
In other words as the disciples later known as the apostles wrote their letters, their recall would be accurate since they were not depending totally on their memory, but as they wrote the things which Jesus taught them the Holy Spirit who was in them guided their thoughts as they wrote the books of the New Testament.

Secondly, as they wrote to the believers in Jesus, they were given new things by the Holy Spirit as he guided their minds in writing down the trues which God wanted them to know.

Thirdly, the Holy Spirit guided their writing as they wrote of "things to come", this was especailly true as the apostle John wrote the Book of Revelation as the Holy Spirit gave him instructions, visions and symbols which would instruct the believers in knowing God's plan for them now and the hope which they had for the future.

Today as believers who have been born from above by the Holy Spirit, he opens their understanding as they read those precious documents handed down to us by the apostles, it is in these words which modern day believers are given understanding of God's truth in the past, present and future. We are not left alone, but the helper, the Holy Spirit is with us until Jesus comes.

It is important to understand that God is revealed to us in three persons, yet one God. God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. God has choosen the Holy Spirit to speak to our hearts about His Son and Himself, as your references say, "he will not speak of himself" but rather he directs us to Christ through whom we come to the Father. We do not understand it all at once, since God seems to reveal himself over time to those who rest in Him, praising him for the things in the past, trusting him for strength and guidance in handling the things which are now and resting in Him for the hope which is ours in the future; knowing that God is in control of everything.

I hope this helps.
