I am a Christian who goes to church because I have more I need to learn, to fellowship with other believers, to help me in my spiritual walk throughout the week, but, most of all, my best friend, Jesus and the Godhead are there. A good many people go to church to get ammunition to fire at everyone rather than themselves. I expect that is why an atheist would go...to learn more to use it as ammo against our belief system. Perhaps though there are some who really want to know the truth and want to be convinced. Do you know what it says on the atheist's tombstone? All dressed up and no place to go...funny but sad isn't it. Mmm

I'm Christian, studied in the original manuscripts and the Biblical languages, x35 years now -
I do not go to any church.
As for athiests who say they go to church and read the Bible - the church part surprizes me, but not the Bible reading part. I've found on this forum that many of the athiests are quite knowledgeable of the Bible.
They have some of it alittle bit off-key, but so do some Christians on here.
Life is a learning process. Nobody has it all down-pat.

It is good also if you are "Atheist"... I don't see a crime in it. What we can't understand, is why you don't "respect", that we believe in somenthing .. Specifically in "God".
And i ask you to forgive us, if we attack you for not believing ...
Actually, I was baptized "catholic", but i don't go to church so frequent. I belieive that the Temple, The church is inside of our hearts...
When i go to church, is when i really need to cry, and that is the place that gives me "temporary peace"... Not on sundays, could be any day of the week, 3pm ...I like to be alone there, the smell of the roses, to see A jesus Crist picture, makes me feel better.
You don't need to beleive in God to go to a Church, or viceversa.
Kido, God knows all things ... there is no way you can hide anything. And don't even think that people who go to chucrches, are better than you.
Peace body.

My purpose for going is to inspire my faith... that there is something more out there than what we have right here. I believe in God and going to church gives me special time just thinking and hearing about Him. It gives me a chance to learn more about Him and gives me a quiet, dedicated place to thank Him for all the blessings that I have received and still receive every day. It makes me feel at peace and inspires me to help others however and whenever I can.

Some people, upon having children, take their children to church because that was how they were brought up, not because of how they believe.
I know a couple in which she is Luthern, and he is atheist. He allows her to take the children to church on the condition that, when they are old enough, he can start teaching them atheism and allow them to decide.
My spouse and I don't take our kids to church, but as a theologian, I teach them in the Unitarian style about all faiths and philosophies so that when they are old enough, they can make an informed decision.

I am sad to say that i don't go to church but that doesn't mean that i don't believe in God. We all have our own way believing of honoring God.
