I gave an answer to a question that prompts me to ask this. What if, before the car was invented, someone said to you, "I have this really great idea, (car). It will benefit billions of people but will also kill millions. Would you still want it made? What if one of the people it would kill was the person you love most in the whole world. Would you still say yes then?

It depends. Are you assuming a deterministic or non-deterministic universe? If non-deterministic, then knowledge of the car possibly killing someone I know is just a possibility, and I would be able to warn that person. If it is a deterministic universe, then everything is already laid out and it doesn't really matter what I want or not. In either case, I probably wouldn't be able to make something as basic as a car not happen.

No I wouldn't because it would kill the person I loved the most. However if it had not killed that person, then I would say yes, because the benifits far out weigth the cost. Besides it actually can save lives to, like a ambulance, fire trucks or what not.

If you anticipate a potential problem with an idea (such as "killing millions"), proactively redesign and upgrade the idea, eliminating the potential problem to the greatest extent realistically possible.

The car is neither good nor bad, it is how we use it. The same could be said for airplanes - they allow us to travel more quickly and to places we otherwise could not go, they can also be used to ram into buildings and kill thousands. Everything on this Earth can be used for good or bad - it is our choice how to use them.

No I would not want it to be invented. It is a luxury and a benefit, not a necessity.
