Well, many breeders of Danes and Boxers crop ears between 7 and 10 weeks. Those breeds are then taped and require changing of the covering to help insure the positioning and keep them clean. There is an art to cropping ears and the shape of the head and the pattern used on the ear does change the appearance of the dog, however cropping should be done before the dog is 12 weeks old.

You should get ears cropped between 10-14 weeks of age. Also the crop that is done on the pitbull is (IMO) quite ugly. They remove nearly the entire ear, and the cropping isn't done to help the ear stand. On pitbulls it's done to prevent them from getting ripped in fights. By the time you find someone who is willing to do it and actually get an appointment it would likely be too late. Also pitbulls aren't cropped as a 'breed standard'. Most people who crop the dog's ears do so because they are going use the dog for fighting. I see no reason for you to get your dog's ears cropped since it won't be shown, and it isn't a breed standard.

It's completely up to you as the owner. Know all the pros and cos and whats involved with having them done. Personally my male Boxer is not done. I felt it was an unnecessary procedure for no good reason other then looks. But I prefer the ears down I just think they look cuter.

That's a question for your vet.

However, clipping your puppy's ears serves no practical purpose whatsoever. Why would you subject your pup to that?

My pits do not have their ears or their tails clipped, I think they don't look as intimidating. People get so uptight when they see a pit...

I would not recommend it beyond 14 wks. My vet will not do them after 12 wks. I have seen a few dobermans done at 16 wks with both good and poor results. Discuss it with your vet.

Ear clipping is cruel, no matter what age.
