Do you think Nobiz Like Shobiz will make it to the Derby? I do... and that's who I'm looking forward to, to win. Do you think the same? Why or why not? If you think different then who are you looking forward to make it and win?

Yes, I think Nobiz Like Shobiz will run in the Derby. Winning the Holy Bull was a great step... and he finished 1st in the Ramsen Stakes last year and 2nd in the Champagne Stakes. So all of that is indication that he'll get to run the Derby. Furthermore, the Derby is historically a big race with a lot of horses running, so he has a great shot at being one of the group.

Other horses to look for: Circular Quay and Street Sense. I'd like to see Street Sense win the Derby just because no Breeders Juvenile winner has ever gone on to win the Derby... but he's only won the Breeders, no other race... it's not impossible for him to win, but not likely. As for Circular Quay: he didn't do well in his first race this year, but that's because 2 horses in front of him clipped heals throwing one jockey to the ground, so CQ didn't have the opportunity to run a normal race. Nevertheless, he won 2 races last year and came in 2nd in 2 races.

Notional will probably run the Derby: he avoided the heel clipping incident and won the Risen Star.

2 others with good records are Scat Daddy (2 wins, a second and a third) and Stormello (2 wins and 2 thirds).

But it's only January and there's a lot more stakes races to be run before May. And those are really more important than the 2 year old races... if you run as a 2 year old and do pretty well, but lose everything your 3 year old year, there's not much hope for the Derby. But if these horses continue to win like they have so far, all of them have a pretty good shot at the Derby.

I think he will make it to the Derby. He's in the hands of an excellent horseman in Barclay Tagg and he's moving in the right direction. Winning will be much harder than making it there. One thing that worries me about Nobiz is his size. He's already over 17 hands, with a giant stride. Oftentimes in the 20 horse cavalry charge of the Derby horses as large as he is don't have the agility to manuever through traffic while smaller horses can weave in and out to find that perfect trip without losing momentum. Of course the race is still almost 3 months away, if a 12 or 14 horse field shows up his chances will improve dramatically.

I sure hope he does! It's really early to be making predictions, but he has the pedigree to go the "classic" distances. He is out of Albert The Great ( Go For Gin) and Nightstorm (Storm Cat). Go For Gin won the Derby in 1994.

But like I said it's really early and anything can happen. Look at Tiz Wonderful, he was injured while training. I want to see how he (Nobiz) does in The Fountain of Youth. Several of his main rivals went down in flames over the week-end, and new contenders emerged.

Nobiz Like Showbiz will have his hands full as the distances increase. I like his style and I do believe he has potential but I am not at all certain he will be able to withstand the pace at 1 1/4 M and still finish with enough to win the big race.

I see there are many who might disagree with me when you look at the future pool closing odds for this weekend. Have fun and I wish you and Nobiz the best.
