Theoretically, can't I just hook up the 5 speakers to the HD reciever. I see alot of componet hook-ups besides the normal HD componets. I was figuring those must be for speakers. They are different colors than the HD componet and there are about five of them.

they are not for speakers your cable box has no internal amplifier to power them. You need speaker outputs not component to hook them up.

An HD receiver, as you called it, is simply the cable box that receives the TV signal from the incoming coax cable. What you need is a Home Theatre system with a stereo amp capable of delivering 5:1 surround sound . Also, for the true effect, you need a sub-woofer, otherwise, no bass. Most of these Home Theatre systems have a built in DVD player too.

there are usually not speaker hookups on the back of the cable company receivers. If there are 5 hookups for speakers, then you can...but usually there's just an audio output that goes into your receiver.

# cables are for video and the other ones are for audio Red Green Blue are for video

no they are for standed TV, or for outputs for your VCR, or DVD-recored
