For a female doing a seated dumbell press, what is the correct form...is she sitting straight up, reclined a little....and what are average amounts to lift? Average reps? Also, when using two sep. weights, and you are talking about the actual weight...like "I did steated dumbell presses and I'm up to 40 pounds." Would that mean the person has 20# in each hand? Or 40 in each hand?

The weight refers to the weight of the individual dumb bell, i.e. I am using 20lbs when I do the dumbbell press..a two 20 lbs dumbbell. A seated press in best done with the back straight. This is a great exercise for the shoulders, maybe the best one. If you recline at all then you began to work the upper chest. Still good, but you work a different muscle group. An average amount is not average....but start with maybe 5lbs and see how that feels. At first you should be able to get 7 to 10 reps out of this weight. When you can do 3 sets of 10, move up in weight. Maybe 1 or 2 lbs at a time in the beginning. Concentrate on form as well. Nice slow movement going though a complete range of motion. This will ensure you work the muscle to maximum benefit.

For a female I would suggest keeping the weights low and doing more reps (3 sets of twenty). If you have 20 pound wieghts in each hand you are going to build up muscle in your shoulders, and I doubt that is the look you are going for. As for the position any will work, it will just change what muscles are being worked on.

first I would switch to doing them standing. there is no advantage to doing them seated. you will strengthen the core more by doing standing presses.

use whatever amount of weight that allows you to properly execute the movement for the desired amount of reps. the rep range should be varied, one day do 8-10 reps and the next do 15-20 with a lighter weight, etc.

You should do light weight and high reps. Like 15-20 reps with 3 sets of them. And for the angle, it depends on what you want to work out. If you want to work out your shoulders, do it upright. If you want to work out more of a chest, but it on an angle. Good luck.
