Generally atheists can be of two categories:
1. Those who are innocent and are misled due to lack of knowledge and materialistic propaganda
2. Those who are envious of God and are directly opposing HiIm - these are the demons
The innocent you can show compassion to them by trying to enlighten them. The demoniac you should avoid them by all means.

An atheist is a person that does not believe in a god or gods. That's it, and that's all.
And yes, you will likely have some annoyed people answering this since this question has been asked at least once a day and usually several times a day since the birth of this site.
Also, were your intentions to know why we care about religion, you could have asked that. But asking why we are here at all often times comes with the implication that we shouldn't be.
This section is about religion and spirituality. It is not for the religious and spiritual only.

Atheists do not share the theistic belief in God or Gods, it is not necessary for an atheist to go so far as holding a belief that there is no God although some feel the lack of evidence suggests that the likelihood of there being a God or Gods is so remote as to be literally unbelievable.
Many of us atheists have had to fight our way through religious indoctrination and misinformation before we could decide for ourselves our own world-view, however we are as entitled as anybody to discuss religious and spiritual matters whether or not we have come through a religious upbringing or had previous personal experience of religion.

Atheism is the lack of a belief in a god or gods. That is the only thing common to all atheists, beyond that we each have our own beliefs.
And atheists answer questions here because we're interested in religion and/or spirituality. That is, I imagine, the same reason everyone else answers questions here. The only difference is that they don't have to justify their presence half a dozen times a day.

Atheism simply means Without (a) Belief in Gods (theism ). An atheist does not believe in gods. Of course individual atheists are free to believe in anything that they find is supported by credible evidence. They don't find gods to be supported by credible evidence. That is why they are atheists.
As far as being in this section, This section often addresses questions which I find interesting.

Atheism is the lack of belief in God(s). Some Atheists believe in an afterlife, some believe in UFOs, beliefs will vary by person.
I am here to try to understand people, more specifically religious people.

This is not the "only if you believe in god" section. Just because I do not believe in something does not mean I do not have an educated opinion on it. I am an Atheist, but I have also read the bible and attend church services. I have as much right to answer and ask questions here as you do.

The simple fact of the matter is that atheists don't believe that there is a God. They're not confused. That's just what they believe.

Not all of us are atheists. Some of us just dislike the yammering on and on about useless BS. Some of us just actively hate Christianity because of its hypocrisy. Some of us are just trying to open your eyes to the futility of your cause.
