First, I think that the first thing to do is to spend some time doing personal research on the Internet. You have posted this in the "weddings" category - this is a category for help with planning weddings, not for help with jewelry.

Second, remember that in the long run, quality is typically better than quantity. Bigger is not always better. Always opt for 14 or 18 carat gold for yellow and platinum for silver. It's more symbolic of your love.

As far as the diamond, many jewelry stores will allow you to customize rings. If you find one that you kind of like, the sales guy can probably order it in platinum vs. yellow gold and 1/3 carat vs. 1/4 carat. Just talk to them about it.

Good luck to you. : )

CUT, COLOR, CLARITY, AND CARAT..

I'm assuming your budget is really tight. The last thing you want to do is get anything from macy's or sears or anything like that. Especially if it's a ring.

I suggest you visit a wholesale.. Like Sam's Club or BJ's wholesale Club. WHY? the quality is good and you'll get it at a cheaper discount.

IF you rather get more guarantee then obviously you'll visit a jewelry store.. INstead of platinum.. i suggest white gold

I really really don't think the ring should be silver. I dont' know.. if your man loves you.. he wont' get it in silver.

You can get a very nice ring .33 carats for about $500

you can get a decent one for about $300

as for other things.. PLAN YOUR WEDDING 1 yr or more in advance.. WHY? Booking halls is a PAIN IN THE BUTT! that's the main thing.. apart from that.. everything will go smoothly.. but start planning 1 yr or more in advance.

I'm sure he has an idea of what he is comfortable spending and I'm sure you have an idea of what you want. Generally 1-3 months salary is spent on an engagement ring. Go shopping together and let him see what you like. Friedman's has some really beautiful rings...that's where mine came from. Congratulations.

I always have to chuckle when people say " we're gettiing engaged". That's like saying "we've talked about talking about getting married."
As for your question- any respectable jeweler will explain everything you need to know and help you pick the combinations that best suits you. I researched at Jared but eventually bought from a friend who is a jeweler. Everyone was helpful. I think the key was shopping around.

ALWAYS go for better quality. The rule of thumb is you spend 2-3 months salary on a ring. But, you can do whatever you want. GO to a reputable place. Do your homework, learn the 4 c-s. Cut, colr, clarity, and color.

Well some general advice, start saving now! Don't even assume anyone is going to help you cause things can change and you don't want to get caught with your pants down. Good luck planning, it is crazy!!!

About the ring: find one you love and want to wear forever. Make sure there is a lifetime warranty on it.

This shouldnt additionally be a controversy.struggling with or heated discussions approximately money now's no longer a solid sign. If he makes that particularly greater advantageous than you, and you the two already split expenditures, that's common for him to pay the finished element. Now, in case you go with a hoop over 3 grand, I say possibly you would be able to desire to settle for greater much less costly or you pay element of it. yet a hoop is meant to value 2 months earnings, so he would desire to be waiting to pay for that. a million carat isn't too over the suitable, and a outstanding platium band with some million carat would desire to be some grand.

Did you know sapphires are more rare than diamonds.

I always thought the idea of giving a solitare sapphire ring was beautiful (you can do a white one too--if you want traditional).

Diamonds are only more rare because the population of them are controlled. Sapphires though, are naturally more rare. There simply aren't as many as diamonds.

You don't have to tell anyone it's not a diamond but, inside you'll know it's more rare...just like your love.

I would second what has already been said.

You also shouldn't be afraid to haggle over the price. DH talked them down several hundred dollars on my ring. Go back and forth between stores. You'd be surprised what you can get. We bought my engagement and wedding ring at separate chain stores, and haggled with both on the price.

First off - Congrats!! Secondly - it is better to go with a higher quality smaller stone then a larger poor quality stone. Try going onto debeers.com or bluenile.com to learn about stones. Good luck in your hunt!
