If what you're trying to do is get sound from your laptop to your surround sound, you'll need to get a sound card that will allow you to connect your DVD surround sound via RCA to your sound card. If you get an external sound card this will have to be pluged in via 1/8" cable (Green/Black) from your sound card to your laptop. If you get an internal sound card (AKA: PCI card) would would just have to make sure the PCI sound card is compatible with RCA cables and therefore would connect it directly to your laptop. I would recommend Sound Blaster X-Fi Fatal 1ty from Creative.

If what you're trying to do is watch your DVD's from your DVD player to your laptop, you would need to get a graphics card. If this is the case you'll have to connect your DVD player via S-video cable from your DVD to your laptop's graphics card if it's an internal card. If it's an extranal graphics card you will then have to connect it via S-video cable from your DVD player to your card, and from your card to your laptop via VGA cable (Blue). I would recommend GE force X2500 from NVDIA. How ever I would highly recommend you just buy either an internal or external DVD player, preferably an internal DVD driver.

Good luck!

If the laptop has a VGA output, you could go out into your theater...but it's not going to use your USB drive. I would purchase a DVD player
