You haven't given us enough info babygirl. What kind of "building" is it? you will be limited by that....balloons, streamers and paper wedding bells sound cliche, but they go a long way on a small budget to establish areas in a big open room....establish a dance area or meeting place for relaxed conversation, a place to eat/drink, a cake table and a head table. Check out the local party rental catalog....some places have dance floors now and balloon decorations range from columns and arches to really novel filled balloons that double as favors. I suggest going to a few photographers just to look through their stacks and stacks of wedding albums....I got lots of good ideas that way....get a few brides magazines (much cheaper if you share subscriptions with another bride). I think the the nicest theme is always BRIDE/GROOM...I am a llittle put off the trend to make it a cinderella theme or fall theme.....seems more like a production to me than a wedding...but its your day. Last, decide whats important to you ...Have a list of the big five. Everything else....just start talking it up with family. You might find that you have a friend or cousin who would love to decorate, make programs, make cookies, come up with centerpieces...etc. The more people you get involved the more fun and memorable the day will be...but don't bring them on board until you are sure about what YOU WANT. People love weddings and most will overdo....so once you let go of control of something...let them run!! and enjoy the ride!!! Also, keep in mind that your wedding is a very busy day for you....my daughter wanted a garden spot for her wedding (married in church, reception in hall) she kept searching and searching for a venue with outdoor park-like setting. Her wedding was at noon...she had pics at a park before the reception...the receiving line was at 4:00 pm.... by the time she was ready to go out to her garden..it was dark...and even then, it was time to dance and cut the cake so she would have had about 15 mins....lots of the details that seem so important now while you have time to plan become a big blur on the wedding day....and truly only you and your mom will know that the flowers on your invites match your dress and the cake.....your guests want to see you be happy and eat a good meal.... dont let the hype and crazy wedding marketers get you into something you can't afford....When you start asking family and friends for help you will be amazed at the number of gifts/talents that will help....its wonderful fun!! Good Luck!!

My wife is Polish-American, so we had kielbasa, pierogies, plus some pasta for my Italian heritage. I think maybe stringbeans, too? Throw in cheese & crackers during happy hour, Italian cookies and a cake later, and everyone said it was the fullest they've been at a reception. Good for lining a stomach before drinking! Much better than tiny chicken, no hors d'oevres for the first couple rounds...

Table setting use little glass jars or even glass pudding bowls and place the colorful glass stones in them and place a dove in the center of the stones with a tag on the dove saying your name and husbands and date and year you got married . play music of all age groups . You and your husband decide a song you want to dance to . Food like meatballs , subs , salad , chicken , potato casserole , breads , beans ,veggie dishes , Italian sausage , pudding , brownies , cookies , etc.... When you decide what to use for table setting you can also place a vase with 2 flowers that represent you and your husband . GOOD LUCK !

What theme are you going for? What is the wedding like? You should have the reception be in some kind of theme. Have it based off of the wedding. My cousin saved big money by not hiring a band and just using his IPod. Worked great!

A buffet is the least expensive way to do it. Have stations with all different kinds of food: salads, meats, desserts, etc. If you are having a winter wedding, do a winter them: Bare branches in glass vases set on mirror tiles will impress your guests. The main thing is to have good food.

For my cousin's wedding, we did these little place settings with "a spoon full of kisses". We used spoons, 3 hershey kisses, pretty ribbon, and cheese cloth like material wrapped them all up around the spoon and put a little tag on it with the persons name on one side and a spoon full of kisses on the other. I thought it was cute!
