I think that people are more likely to turn to religion during stressful times. After all, religion is what gives a lot of people hope.

Stress and misfortune turns people to God at least temporarily, but I think most people seek out God when their lives are found to be missing substance or depth and they begin searching for answers. This could happen when they're young, from questioning their parents, in college, when they're exposed to so many new things, or a bit later when they lose interest in careers they had sought so hard to achieve.

I think many people seek comfort from God momentarily during bad times, but it doesn't always stick. When people find God at the right time in their lives, that is usually a relationship that lasts a lifetime, and beyond.

Those who are not pious and resort to atheistic views never surrender to God. They are unfortunate.
Those who are pious generally have four reasons or motives when they turn to God:
1. They are suffering and want relieve of their distress.
2. They are in need of money
3. They are inquisitive and curious
4. They are searching for the Absolute Truth

Of those 4 the one who is in full knowledge of God and worships Him without consideration of happiness and distress, poverty and richness, honor and dishonor, etc. is considered by the Lord Himself as the best of all. The others may turn away when their demands are fulfilled.
But generally people remember God in stressful times and tend to forget Him when things are going well for them. This is not real devotion. Real devotion is unconditional and uninterrupted.

That depends upon one's upbringing, but I think, without question, it can be said that people who have been taught that God is a shield and buckler in times of trouble are most likely to turn to God in times of trouble. Among the most religious are people whose teams are tied with or slightly behind their opponents at halftime.

Gezza D: Shame on you for disseminating that lie. Try instead the lie that Christians all convert to Buddhism on their deathbeds.

MOST likely? At a moment of desperation. Theism has always been a popular crutch to those who lack the strength to pull through. That's not to say that's the only reason some people turn to deity, but it's certainly a popular one. (Though personally if I were a deity, I'd have much more respect for those who carried on with the strengths and situations I'd already given them.)

well it should be everyday, may it be the hardest time or great time.

what people seem to forget that the "tough times" are nothing more than a test to see if u would abandon God like its his fault. If you keep faith there really never is a tough time.

Thus, look to God for everything and all things and you cant go wrong..

People are most like to turn to God when they finally see him as he is. As a loving, contemporary God who can see you through any situation. A God who has a way of getting your attention. It could be in the moment of despair, but it doesn't have to be. It could be after hearing a powerful sermon and tear-jerking song, but it doesn't have to be. It could very well be while you are on your way home from work and you finally realize that something is missing in your life, Jesus.

History shows that most folks turn to God when they are in deep trouble and forget about Him when times are good.

Like in the 'Count of Monte Cristo', they will turn to a god whenever they will gain something from it. If they are about to die, they suddenly see, maybe I should be redemed. It's that simple. People are selfish.

I'm atheist.

Usually as children, or following a difficult period in their lives. It's vulnerability more than anything that turns people towards religion.
