You can use regular coffee in an espresso machine, I believe.

Espresso has a finer grind than regular drip coffee and, as a result, a higher amount of dissolved solids per relative volume. This is why the espresso finished product is so much more concentrated than a regular brew.

So, I don't think your espresso machine will have a problem dealing with the regular grind. You may just view it as a waste of the intended use of the machine.

My suggestion: wait until you get your hands on some real espresso and just use a regular coffee maker until then. Hope I've helped.

regular coffee is granular, expresso is a powder. it's like the difference between kitty litter and baby powder.
it won't harm your expresso machine to use coffee.

For me, that depends. If the coffee is made with grounds I can not tell the difference. I can tell a difference with the different Brands of coffee. Now if the decaf is made with instant coffee, then YES, there is a major difference in the taste. Also I have traded out reg coffee for decaf (I poured the decaf grounds into a reg ground empty coffee tin) and other coffee drinkers could NOT tell the difference.

Espresso is ALMOST ground to a powder. It is much finer to allow for the way the water is pushed through the grounds quicker than regular coffee.
