The way you express yourself in written and oral communciations gives off cues as to your intelligence/education. If you consistently use proper grammer, people will tend to perceive you as well-educated. If you employ poor grammar people will perceive you as poorly educated/unintelligent. Unless you're a professional football player, the former is more likely to help you.

Importance? Look at the questions on YA. Some cannot even be translated. Who knows what they are writing about?
The ability to communicate effectively also indicates a level of intelligence and logical thought.

Well, I would say it is as important for mechanics to use proper grammar as for anyone else. If they cannot use proper English, they have difficulty in communicating, which leads to other frustrations.
