At the time Abraham lived, human (and child) sacrifice was common in most religions. That God would tell him to do that was almost expected at the time. That is one of the reasons that God told him to do that.

The Bible is an expanding revelation of the person of God. Abraham did not understand everything. Nor did Moses, David, Isaiah, or any of the others. As the book precedes, they understand more that the generations before them. And what they learned and recorded is correct. It is just not complete until you reach Jesus.

God not only had to deal with revealing the truth about himself, but he also had to correct false information - such as the idea that God wanted human sacrifices. So God told Abraham to offer his son, and brought him all the way to where he was ready to kill Isaac, and then stopped him. This way Abraham had no dobut that it was God, not his own reluctants to kill Isaac, that stopped the sacrifice. And it settled in Abraham's mind - and in the Jewish religion - one and for all - that God did NOT want human sacrifices. You will not find human sacrifices ever appearing again in the worship of God. (The worship of Baal, and other non-Jewish gods - yes. But not in the worship of God)

I think Abraham was so crazy about obeying God so much so all other things are not important to him. Even he would be willing to sacrifice his life for his son if God asked for it and not his son instead. The bible records, Abraham obeyed God's call that he left his family to go to some place only God knew where and he did it.

Surprisingly to us, human sacrifices were not that rare back in those days. To them, with life expectancies in the 40s, and with large families, the killing and wasting of a child was not that far of a stretch than killing one of your lambs in order to gain favor with which ever God you thought was running the show.

Bible pounders will tell you that it was to test Abraham's love and unquestionable obedience to God, and they may be right. I am just saying, it was not as shocking as it would be today.

because God's relationship with Abraham become in accordance with God giving and relaxing multiple delivers to bless him. This lined a promise to provide a son through Sarai/Sarah. This become effectively no longer a danger through organic skill, because of Sarah's age and barrenness. She laughed on the concept. notwithstanding the delivery did take position, and God has blessed the line of Isaac (and positively Ishmael as well in a more beneficial materialistic way), and positively ultimately the Messiah got here from the line. So Abraham had grow to be a guy of religion through the time of the Isaac sacrifice. in accordance to the e book of Hebrews in the recent testomony, he knew that God would in all likelihood enhance him from the lifeless, in view that a key element he had realized become that God fulfilled his delivers - and Isaac become named the 'son of promise' through God. The attempt bolstered Abraham's faith. a lengthy way more beneficial importantly it provided prophetic images of what would take position 2000 years later. the shape occurred on mount Moria, believed through Jews to be a similar as Mount Zion in Jerusalem. 2000 years later God's Son become sacrificed there. in the Isaac experience, God freed Isaac and provided a sacrifice for Abraham somewhat - a goat stuck in a tree. So Jesus demise on the tree (which Peter and others called the pass at circumstances) in our position is prophesied, from a christian view. probable also it gave God a precise to sacrifice Jesus for our sins, as God is truly organic. i have heard that reported, probable it truly is real.
