I have a 99 Grand AM that I had a aftermarket radio put into. I need to remove it to put in a sirius radio adapter in it. How do I go about removing the radio so I can just slide it back in when I am done. Thanks

That first answer is just stupid. I am asking HOW to release the radio from the install kit. I know it comes out without removing the trim ect but don't see how.

Isn't there tabs or something once you take the small plate around the faceplate to release it? You can't see those metal tabs unless you take the car trim off.

If your head unit(HU) had a sleeve installed with it,
than you can remove the HU by sliding the HU keys on the sides, move them around till the HU comes loose, and simply slide out the HU.

replacing it will be easier because you simply slide it back in and it will click in place.
these HU keys should have came in the box along with the HU and sleeve.

if your HU wasn't installed with a sleeve. than you will have to remove the trim surrounding your HU. to do this, you might have to remove the center consol first.
after doing that you will need to remove the metal frame holding your HU in place.
after taking that out, you will be able to access the back of the HU.

to put it back in just repeat the process backwards

hope this helps

There are usually little metal tabs that are a part of the mounting kits metal sleeve that goes over the stereo. Bend these back flat and it will release the stereo. It's a trick, but patients will pay off.

Just use common sense taking it out and putting it in. That is like me telling you how to use the brakes. Somethings are just hands on doing.

The only thing before you start is to disconnect the POSITVE or RED cable from the battery first. Then work on your radio.
