Hi Serious Asker:
I have played at party poker for years and fortunately I am in Canada and can still play there. Party was so successful because of it's huge player base.
Now that Americans can no longer play there I have to admit we miss having you! However that being said absolute is still accepting US players and there are typically close to 10,000 users at any given time, it has grown dramatically. I also play there as well as party and it is similar in all fashions.
It offers outstanding tournament variety especially for texas holdem. Absolute still has funding options available for US players as well.
Good luck and if you choose absolute I hope you enjoy your experience!

Try Full Tilt, Poker Stars, Doyles Room, or Ultimate Bet.
See link for a list of great sites that still take American players.

Full Tilt - Great for a couple reasons. First, they have a $600 bonus on your first deposit. Second, they have a HUGE (and growing) player base. Third, they're Macintosh compatible. In fact, they are the only site that's taking US players that is. Think about that: that means ANY Mac user who wants to play online poker, HAS to play at FT. That's a lot of fish. ;-)
Absolute also has a huge sign-up bonus, and a LOT of players these days...but personally, I think FTP is the future of online poker.

Try one of these:
fulltiltpoker
absolutepoker
ultimatebet
doylesroom
fullcontactpoker
full contact poker isn't as popular as the others yet. I noticed that there are only about 1500 people online there. fulltilt and ultimatebet seem to always have almost 20,000 at a time and more tournaments than most.
GOOD LUCK!!!

The next big 3 are going to be Pokerstars, Full Tilt, and Ultimate bet. Bodog is also gaining much popularity over the past year.
