I believe that Islam, like most religions, is capable of being manipulated to spread hatred and violence.
It's true that the violence is caused by a small minority of people who, according to Muslim moderates are not 'true Muslims'. Just as it is now often said that Hitler wasn't a 'true Christian'. But as far as I'm concerned that's completely irrelevant. Whether it's a literal interpretation, a liberal interpretation or some bizarre corruption of a religion that promotes hatred, it works because a large number of people have complete faith in a lie. There's no such thing as a peaceful religion.

Actually Islam is a peaceful religion. Just like you can pick apart the bible and find hidden and some outward meanings, so you can with the Koran. As an actual witness I have seen Muslim inmates protect guards from other inmates wishing to do them harm. Violence is against their religion. The Extremists are the ones who misrepresent Islam. Have you ever seen the snake-handlers in our Country? (assuming you are in USA) Some people believe Jehovahs Witnesses are radical but never violent, although people find them to be a nuisance. Catholic, Baptist, Methodist, Southern Baptist, Presbytarian, Episcopalian,Zen, Buddism.....Who is right?

I think that it is a peacefull religion.I think the problem is not the religion..... the problem is the nutty ones that chose to hide behind their religion to behave the way they want to.It is like any other beliefs(You have the right to believe what you want just don't force it on others )weather it be Islam,Christianity,or atheist..I know some people from all these groups and I love them to death,I would do anything for them as they would me!!!I also know a few nutty ones from all these groups to so you see it is the person not the religion!!

The truth is, as a Christian from this country, I don't know anything about Islam except by observation. I don't believe most Muslims really know anything about Christians except what they see from the media. Unfortunately, due to ungodly people, media, and other actions on the part of non-Christians in the US, I am afraid the rest of the world has a very false idea of what Christians are and who they are supposed to represent. From TV alone it looks like we are a filthy, nasty group of people that lie, cheat, steal, kill, use drugs and alcohol and are sexually impure. Lots of very negative stuff. Cannot exactly blame them for their false view of us since the positive stuff is rarely shown to the rest of the world like what our Christian medical work has done and other humanitarian aid, plus the prayers we send up for the poor throughout the world. People like excitement and the good stuff doesn't sell as well. By outward appearance my impression of Islam is not good. I cannot believe that any loving and caring religious group would condone killing off their own innocent countrymen. It makes me sad and sick at heart. What really disturbed me is when I heard that the young people who are sacrificing themselves to suicide are doing it so they can have a better life with a bunch of virgins at their disposal. Makes me think that their war is a sexual revolution and has not got a thing to do with religious principle, What can we do? what can we do.... Mmm

None of the Eastern Monotheisms are about peace. The Old Testament shows how warlike the races of the region were and the Jews were no different in their lust for conquest and pillage. As soon as Christians gained political power they began imposing their religion on the world by flame and sword. Islam did the same at its founding. the notion that any of these religions is about peace is irrelevant since their adherent are about conquest, pillage and plunder.

True islam is peacful. True any religion is peacful. It is those that take the context of their religious and bend it to fit their view that change the religion into a bad one.

Any faith or philosophy can be peaceful or dangerous depending upon where the individual takes it inside of themselves. At the same time, any faith or philosophy can be twisted into a cult (the big lie) in order for the religious leader to gain social, monatary, or political power.

Depends on the Muslim. I know an Imam who certainly practices a peaceful religion. The Muslims who make it to the newspapers, as we all know, certainly don't seem to value peace.
