Sin is wilful ommission or commission of some act in violation of religious laws; whereas offence relates to State Laws. For Example, premarital sexual intercourse with 16+ girl (with her consent) is no offence for both in any Indian law; hence cannot be prosecuted or punished by Court/Govt. A wife's sexual intercourse with other/s (despite having healthy, caring, smart, sexy & potent husband ) is also no offence in India. However Islam prohibits/bars it with clearly written unambiguous Quranic teachings, hence it is a grave sin for Muslims punishable continuously in hell. Despite such nonrestraint by Government laws, Muslims refrain from adultery and pre/extra marital sexual intercourse under the guidance of Islam. Thus sin and offence are different.

Sin is any action or inaction, thought, or word that is contrary to Jesus' command to love God with all of your heart, mind, and soul and your neighbor as yourself.

Look at the relationships in your life - your relationship with God, others and yourself. If any of these relationships are strained or even broken, there is sin involved.

Sin is a deliberate thought, word, deed, or omission contrary to the eternal law of God.

In other words, sin is anything that hurts your relationship with God.

With love in Christ.

Imagine you are god, the most merciful, the most gracious. Imagine you create something called human. Imagine you give him everything, all the pleasures such as food, satisfaction, joy, and most importantly, FREE WILL.

Now imagine that creature is acting so stupidly, that you're getting angry.

All those acts are called sin. The ironic thing is, we are not punished for what we do, but we punish ourselves. What you reap is what you sow.

Sin is that which separates you from God- choices, thoughts, etc. When you knowingly act in a way contrary to God's will, you are separating yourself from God.
