Can someone give me a hand? Im looking for an inexpensive way to whiten my teeth. Im an ex-smoker, and soda freak, so i have dark ugly stains, and my teeth are a brown tint! Its embarassing, and I brush twice a day and floss. Any suggestions besides lying off on the soda (already did that....)?

The Herbal Body Book (A Natural Approach To Healthier Hair, Skin, and Nail) by Stephanie Tourles says that....

"strawberries have a slightly bleaching effect and help to rid the teeth of tea, coffee, and cigarette stains. A strawberry is much safer to use than lemon juice, which is too acidic."

Her recipe for Strawberry Brightener
Mash 1 medium-sized ripe strawberry. Dip your brush into the liquid and brush normally.

From the Answerer:
I must warn you that the seeds get stuck in your toothbrush, so you may want to have a separate brush just for the strawberry treatment. You would want to do this after regular brushing with toothpaste, of course. You can use thawed out berries that have been frozen, but make sure they do not have sugar in them (and that they’re not still cold). This is a tasty way to treat your teeth!

***This book has great recipes for natural facial steams, scrubs, toners, moisturizers, cleansers, masks, shampoos, etc. I got mine from Amazon for less than $4!!!

These are some GOOD answers. I don't have anything NEW to add, they are all the things I would say. I am noticing some coffee stains on my own teeth. I am going to purchase some of the Listerine Whitening Rinse to see how it works, in addition to the crest whitening strips. I am cheap, but I can't see myself with the cotton balls and peroxide in my mouth on a regular basis. I would not do that consistently enough for it to work. The person who drinks soda regularly with no stains just has less porous teeth. May be younger than the two of us.

GOOD LUCK!! The world thanks you for fixing that smile that we all have to see! LOL

Whitening strips are expensive. An easy alternative is to buy a big bottle of food-grade (3%) hydrogen peroxide at the grocery store, soak a strip of cotton in it, and "mold" that around your teeth. Let it stay on for just a few minutes at a time, and don't do it more than every other day or so. After a few weeks of this, your teeth should be whiter and have fewer stains (but a dentist could take off those tobacco stains in under an hour). Hydrogen peroxide is the ingredient in whitening strips that makes teeth white.

Commercial tooth whiteners use hydrogen peroxide and
are expensive and inconvenient. A cheap and natural
tooth whitening home remedy uses few strawberries
but certain precautions have to be taken.
