I have a Pansat Receiver and I have Dish Network on it. I am using DSSROOKIE.COM to get the new key codes, but does anyone know how to download new files onto the receiver using a cable? My satellite guy who we bring it to will show us for $100 and he says if we get the wrong file for the receiver, it is possible that we can burn it (the receiver) and not be able to use it again. I obviously don't want to fork out 100 bux for this.
any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Any time you flash the receiver you open yourself up to the potential to fry the eeprom. You see the firmware that's burnt onto that chip is what allows you to even upload a different firmware to it. If just the slightest little thing goes wrong with that transfer, then the firmware that runs to know to listen for you to send it new firmware is gone! In other words, it forgets how to do everything, including writing new firmware to the chip! The only way to resurrect it then would be via a JTAG.

My recommendation to you is to keep typing in your keys. You're stealing TV; you can't expect it to work as good as it does for us who actually subscribe. Besides, why put too much effort into something that's going to stop working at the next card swap anyway? You'll be selling your FTA receiver for $50 on eBay just like everyone else did the last time. That's fine as it gives us who use FTA boxes for what they were designed for some cheap equipment!
