when i open a jarof green olives my cat goes nuts .we both love them and when i have some she does as well.is there a scientific answer to this??

Some cats are addicted to different kinds of food. maybe because of the smell or taste or by seeing you eat it. for instance my dog and i are crazy for suger cones and we dont know why.

Olives are, unlike most vegetables, rather rich in fat (olive oil). Chances are, your cat smells this and is attracted to the olives. I've known cats who will lick butter if it's left out, so cats definitely do like fatty things. If your cat is not overweight, the fat should help her coat and skin... if she is a little heavy, olives (and any other treats) should be rationed.
In any case, cats have weird tastes sometimes; taste and texture of different foods will appeal to cats. Cats have been known to like much stranger things than olives!

My cats have ALWAYS loved green olives. I have actually done some research on this and it seems no one really has a good explanation except that maybe they are attacted to the salt in the juice. Does it make your cat playfu? It affects my cats like catnip, makes them playful and crazy. I thought that maybe there was some sort of mint additive (catnip is in the mint family) and this was the cause, but it claims there is no mint in there!! So, it is still a mystery!

Could be the Salt, Or the oil that most olives contain.
I have a cat that will steal the salt lick in the Hamster cage, and totally ignore the Hamster "dam" (jc lol)
Cats are natures nonconformists and they like weird stuff.
I wouldn't worry about it. Also Olives do not contain dangerous substances that you need to worry about (Jeez some people) LOL.

Olives have a high level of toxic substances for cats quickly take it to the vet!!

My cat will eat pizza, popcorn, you name it she'll eat it. Cat's just have very weird tastes sometimes.
