'interaction between industry and higher education' means a project or a industry visit in which students get to know about the actual work environment. usually higher education is only bookish and theoretical so to improve the practical skills required to stand tallest in the industry are learned during the intreaction. actually you get to know about the pressure and stress involved in the work area and hands on experience too. it could be apprenticship also and may be just a 1 day visit to an industry related to study.

The problem with the education establishment is that they don't teach in the real world, some of the educationalists are too far removed from industry. The interaction is supposed to help the educators understand what is required by industry which should help prepare the students for their working lives.

It means the University is pimping itself out.

It could be that they are renting out student land to the highest bidder, rather than using it for what most benefits students.

It could mean they are getting grants to create "spin out" businesses, so that they can spend money on their favorite employees through a basically bogus company.

It could mean they offer students as cheap (or sometimes free) labor to these spin outs to get them into the job market sooner so it looks better to future students.

In a few cases, it's just a secretary who takes phone calls from grads and potential bosses and tells them about each other.
