p1400 is DPFE low voltage... meaning the sensor is sending lower voltage than normally to the PCM at idle....

DPFEs are known for issues on Ford's... Ford has a few bulletins on the one in your explorer in fact.... Don't come cheap but the parts guy at the Ford dealer (Only place to get yours Sorry) will know all about this gem....

Ford base number is 9J460

It's a code for a problem (low voltage) in the emissions system. Start by checking your fuel cap. Chances are it's loose, and turning it until it clicks a time or two will eventually turn off the light. It could also be other things, most likely would be O² sensors if the cap is tight. Also in Fords sometimes there will be an unintended ground in the wiring harness. Note a failing battery or alternator can also cause this code because the voltage drops below what the computer expects to see.

Save this URL for future use. I have a 96 explorer that I occasionally use this on. The less I use it, means my 96 ain't having no problems. lol Also, you can go to selected Auto Zones or automotive parts stores, and let them scan it also.

p1400 Manufacturer Control Auxiliary Emission Controls.
Erase it and see if it comes back.
If it does you're gonna have to put it in the shop for a more complete diagnosis.
I'd say check the easy stuff but the shop is going to charge you for a diagnostic whether you do half of their work for them or not.
