Up until the early Catholic church made it a religious instution, marriage was a civil contract between two families and the two person's involved directly in the contract.

No, of course not. Marriage was intended for any man and woman who want to make a life together and start a family. God, of course, is real big on "family" - but a Muslim or a Buddhist gets married, too.
Putting God aside for just a moment, remember that nature itself puts its stamp of approval on the union of man and woman in marriage (meaning committed to each other for a life time) by the natural conception of a child.
A child requires the healthy balance of both a male role model and a female role model. A dad and a mom. Unfortunately in this day and age, many people are too selfish to think of whats best for the children - what feels good in the drawers seems to be more important.
Reminds ya of Sodom and Gommorah, except those cities weren't quite as bad as our Cities today. Hmmmm....

Marriage is an ancient institution predating Christianity by millennia. Marriage of some kind is found in virtually every society. In the West it remained a largely civil institution until about the mid 5th century CE, when Augustine and others began to philosophize about marriage and it became imbued with uniquely Christian meaning.

Paul and other early CHristians took a dim view of marriage and sex for a variety of reasons, but embraced it for expediency's sake. The early Christians would not know what was going on with evangelicals' near idolatry of the nuclear family.

Marriage was created by God for all people of the opposite sex. It is to be between a man and a woman.
As far as Christians, they are to marry other Christians.

Marriage was and still is intended for one man....and one woman.
Marriage spans humanity...not just us Christians. It's a biblical mandate as far as the family is concerned (I'm not saying that you have to get married....I am saying that marriage is a requirement for making a family)

I dont believe christians should marry, they want to take the rights of others because the christians consider them lesser beings.
