George was always a slugger, in the Olympics where he had the lil flag and all his days fighting heavyweight, he was a huge puncher...and was one of the only fighters who could survive much less win a fight like he did with Ron Lyle in Vegas...12 knockdowns total...a friend of mine from the bay area (Jamie Bills one of his sparring partners late in his career) told me that Big George would hit you with a telephone pole punch, you could see it coming but man when it hit you...it was amazing that he came back long after retiring to preaching and raising a family to regain the Hwy title...George is truly one in a million...

Both Tyson and Marciano were made for both Foreman new and old. George did spar with Liston at the end of Sonny's career. They were both trained by Dick Sadler .Liston had an 84 " reach and Foreman a 78" reach, but George was young and wild swinging. George stated in more than one interview that although he had 3" height on Liston, Sonny continulaly hit him with a very hard stiff jab that kept him off balance and he couldn't back Sonny up at all. Sonny was a better boxer than most people realized. The pole like jab and the aility to slip punches put him right in George's face. Tyson and Marciano would try to come in straight and overpower Foreman and would be made for his style.

Foreman was an outstanding puncher throughout his career not quite as good as Marciano but equal to or better than anyone else. He was not as good a boxer in his early career he didn't need to be. Up until he fought Ali he had never lost.

When he came back he was a better boxer that started using a jab that in my opinion was very good and if he would have used that when he fought Ali it would have been a different fight altogether. He also was able to stay in fights as far as his conditioning goes much better when he was older. Foreman was an inspiration to alot of people when he returned to the ring and did as well as he did.

George Forman was a boxer/slugger.

He didn't have great Ringeneralship/movement, but he was destructive with both hands and had a good cross arm defence, when applied.

A pure slugger in his first "career". A patient ring tactician who looked to sneak punch his opponents in his second "career".
