And no... Windows will not stop if you don't have drivers. Windows installs what are called native drivers (generic drivers already included on your computer) for most of your hardware to allow it to run properly. For best performance, however, you should install drivers from the manufacturer site.

The only things INSIDE your system that may not work are your sound card - everything else should have native drivers, including your display adapter.

If it's a dell, you can enter the service tag and get a list of drivers, if you're lucky. Last night, I tried that and the tag gave me a different model laptop and I really had to hunt for the drivers.

For oddball machines you may have to open the box and get the make/model of the motherboard & go to that site. Same for the video & audio, if they're not on the motherboard. For video, getting the chipset might be enough.

Have fun. Expect to spend a day getting everything working again.

you must have drivers. when windows xp installs and sees there is no drives it will suddenly stop and wont let you continue. but if you mean things like for your motherboard and graphics card you have to go the the manufacturers website to download them.

You may have deleted it accidentally,there are 3 ways to get it:
1)From a software engineer
2)Re-install it yet another time lol....
3)Some website..(maybe the manufacturers)
