I am looking at LCD and Plasmas now, but the problem is I hear that the screens get burned leaving the TV on too long and also you get only about 50 to 60 thousand hours of watch time like a projector, then you have to replace what ever is it that makes the image to the TV after 4 to 6 years, is this true, if so I believe its not worth purchasing a flat panel TV unless the replacement of the device that makes the image is not too much.

Plasma's and LCDs are rated in Half-Life, the time it takes for the display to reach half luminescense. 60,000 hours does not mean the TV will stop working in 60,000 hours, just that the image will be half as bright.

This is not that big of an issue with LCDs because they are so darn bright to begin with. Plasma's on the other hand start off a little less bright but in some cases recent ones will carry the same half life as LCDs. In either case, 60,000 hours is going to translate to at least a good 15 years of TV watching for the average person, until the image loses enough brightness to affect the quality of the picture.

it is true LCD, Plasma and laser TVs last 50 000 hours..But dont u think that's enough? I mean 50 000 is like 6 years if the TV stays on 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Older TV's last longer but the screen gets distorted from time to time..
Like a TV that was in my grandmother's house 30 years ago was working perfectly, but then the cable signal get weaker and the colors started distorting..LCD and Plasma have the same problem..

The plasma only works for a number of hours just look at the warranty. The LCD's are fine. Most LCD's right now have a button to use when you see that little "ghost" or "halo" in your picture and it really does get the burned picture out. Just find a knowledgeable salesperson to help you in your decision making. And one more thing they don't tell you is that if you smoke your sensor in the LCD will go out and around here it costs around $800 to fix so be careful.
