According to the Bible, if your kids don't obey you, you can have them stoned to death.

A spanking is a privelage compared to this!

No, it's not a sin. There is a difference in spanking and beating a child. Well I think you have take a good look at what the child has done, children make mistakes they are human to.
Discipline starts as toddlers. We parents can't say my child 5yrs.old.NowIcan show him or her discipline now. That's not how it works. There are other way of handling matters instead of spanking or beating a child. Take a the things they enjoy the most. TV, games, friends and etc. A spanking every know and then is okay. But a beating is not okay for any means. Think back when you were a kid. I'm sure you didn't get spanked all the time. Oh, a time out works also.

Not sure whether it is a sin, but different kids require different approaches. I have 4 boys, they are all great kids who are good people, and look out for the needs of others.

I spank them, but only rarely, when talking hasn't worked. As a result they know that there is a physical response coming if they cross lines. It teaches them that if you fight against society and authority, there is a price to pay. There are too many kids now days that don't have that expectation. As they grow up, they are shocked when society puts them in Jail for bad behavior. They are shocked when they get fired for being lazy, or not listening to the boss. My kids, will most likely not have this problem.

Wow! Look at that a quick change from "spank" to "beat". What's next, associating "grounding" with "totally depriving your children"?

I seem to recall that phycologists are reversing their oppinions on the judisious use of spanking altough beatings are still considered (and will continue to be) a not good thing.

But you can take this verse in several ways and it does tell you something important: Children need boundaries and they need to know that crossing those boundaries invokes a punishment (time outs, grounding, etc).

spare the rod is to withhold discipline. Discipline does not state you can only use spankings to teach your children. To allow your child to continue in bad behavior is to withhold the rod.

Bible actually speakes not to spare a stick to discipline a child.
When I spank my children I tell them afterwards that it equally hurts me to hurt them but it is for their good that I must spank them when necessary to discipline them.

No it is not a sin. Each parent must decide what will work when it comes to being firm with their child. For the good of society you must be firm and assertive when it comes to controlling your childs behavior and molding his or her personality and character.

God gave you the responsibility of disciplining your children. Not beating them.
Use nothing but your open hand on their rear. If it hurts your hand it is sufficient. Never ever slap.
My mother used a strap on me until she missed one day, and hit herself. I was a case until I found God.

i wouldnt say beat them up to leave bruises or hurt them badly, but its not wrong to give them a little spank to teach them a lesson.
