get in as good of shape as possible no matter what it will be hard but it will end up being well worth it when boot camps over thanks for serving

there are some good answers here. definately start jogging, google "marine's daily dozen" and concentrate on "mountain climbers" and "horizontal leg lifts".
when i was in, the physical fitness test consisted of a three mile run in under a certain time, 80 situps in 2 minutes and a maximum of 20 pull-ups.
the run was key as the winner was the high PFT for his series since almost everyone could max the rest of the test by the end of boot camp.
other than that, learn to get screamed at (with spittle flying and smokey hat poking you in the eyes) without flinching. it's not personal, the DI is just doing his job.

by the way, i forgot to tell you, EVERYTHING you do in the first 9 weeks of boot camp WILL BE UNSATISFACTORY !! ha ha ha. ( if you make it to graduation, you'll laugh too.)

Just ask your recruiter how far you will have to jog/run. That way you will know that you need to be at that level physically. So you can train by jogging on a treadmill at your local gym. Just start slow like the first week jog .25 miles a day 5 or 6 days a week and then see if you can go 1/2 mile the next week. So just keep adding a quarter mile each week until you get to the level you want to reach.

Well be sure to be able to pass the IST which is a mile 1/2 run in 13 min for males minimum of 44 crunches and at least 3 pull ups. Other than that i say attend poolee meetings regularly. Learn to b a leader so when there arent poolee meetin meet up wit other poolees and run your own thing thats what i do. Learn your chain of commands know ur general orders and practice using military terms such as bulkhead-wall, head-bathroom, deck-floor, porthole-window,glasses. Also get used to sounding off, refer to your recruiter as sir. Things of the sort should help you out. I am preparing myself to leave July 9th.

Physically, the better shape you are in the easier it will be.
Mentally, you need to learn to follow orders without question or thought. A marine private is supposed to be a robot.
Grow a thick skin. Drill instructors can be very offensive and degrading. It's not personal.
And ignore these morons who think it's a crime to serve in the military. They don't seem to understand that their freedoms were won with and are protected by soldiers blood.

Get out and run a little before you get down there. You don’t want your first time running in a while to be your initial strength test. Like the previous poster said, the physical stuff will amount to nothing compared to the mental games. I personally witnessed about 10 people drop out because of the mental aspect. If you have a strong mind, you have nothing to worry about. The physical stuff will come naturally by constantly moving and working out. Good Luck.

physically you should worry about pull-ups more than running. The majority of the drops were because people couldn't do them (when I went through). And the mental part is hard but there's really no way to prepare yourself. Check with your recruiter and he'll give stuff you can start studying now.

Hey Rick...NICE...
Hit the ground running... Get into a real aerobic routine with push ups, sit-ups and, pull ups... but really hit the road running!!! Start easy but be ready to run 3-5 miles at a shot everyday prior to shipping out.
Yep, they gonna yell, they gonna call you names, they gonna push... their job is to find out what your are made of, and then mold you into a Marine... 1st to fight OORAH!
In the end it is all worth it.. Pride cannot be bought, it must be earned. You'll understand that part when your D.I. slips the Globe and Anchor into your hand and calls you MARINE!

Just remember that the physical stuff is nothing compared to the mind games they play with you. As soon as you get off the bus at San Diego, or off the plane onto the tarmack at Parris Island, the DI's will start tearing into you verbally, and sometimes physically.
