What Brent F said is basically the way you counter the lead right, If your a lefty you usually see this punch alot more than a right handed fighter would. For a Southpaw it would be to lean back with your weight on your rear leg and counter with a straight left or slip inside and right hook to head or body.

You'd need to have or be able to apply good lateral movement to your right, to get out of the way of the punch, and be able to counter with a left Jab of your own and/or the right cross.

Once you've worked an opening, this should unsettle your opponent. Otherwise you could learn to switch hit, but this takes balance and timing.

If you step to your right to avoid the lead a straight right is effective. If you slip outside the lead(to your left) a left hook to the body or head is effective.

left hook is one way, other way (if u'r quick) is duck under and throw u'r own straight right to body - legs bent body straight (body is totall unguarded at this time) try it first on pads or visualise on bags or shadow boxiing. this is assuming u'r orthodox boxer. after throwing get on jab or continue pummeling depending on u'r style.

Good head and upper body movement will dodge it without moving your feet one inch, watch your balance though.
