You have this posted under Financial Aid...don't know if you are speaking of confidence financially after problems or confidence as a person with self esteem problems. This could relate to so many things...

Basically tho confidence for anything stems from a desire to improve...sometimes it requires a lot of 'guts' to face up to things but once done, the confidence starts to come back...takes awhile and persistance on your part but for every step you take forward, the confidence begins to return.

Whatever it is that you are requiring confidence back from...hope without action doesn't result in anything...hope combined with doing something to rebuild whatever it is that has been torn down, will begin to get you somewhere...maybe not quickly and maybe not without some hard or 'embarrassing' moments but you can do it and you deserve to be able to do it. Regain the trust for whatever the situation is and work to rebuild...that alone will begin to build your confidence back up again.

Good luck, whatever the issue.

Confidence is nothing but your own feeling of a lowly self. Take a look at an elephant. You may be a bit afraid to go near the elephant. But you are confident of patting a dog without knowing whether it is a mad dog or a rabis ridden one. I am not sure of the situation under which you lost your confidence. So I have to guess the situation. But fortunately the solution to all the situations are the same. Let us take an interview scenario. Suppose you are not able to answer a question. At best you may not get that particular job. But that unanswered question will induce you to learn about the answer to that question. It is only the feeling of shame as to what the interviewer will think about your not able to answer the question, which makes you to loose confidence. But you think in this way. By not answering that question you got an opportunity to know the answer to the question. And the second point is that, the interviewer has no personal animosity against you to keep remembering your inability to answer and to criticise you at some other point of time. And physically or financially you have not become worse. So be bold and think positive aspects of all failures. Slowly slowly it will bloom on you that the inner energy to face any situation will surge to a great level. Let us take another situation. You are not able to express yourself either to your girl friend or to your close associate or to your boss about some aspect which you are shy of expressing. Think of the losses that you may incur by not expressing yourself. You will automatically gain confidence to put forth your points logically and more convincingly

First to try think back to the reasons you lost your confidence, because apparently you WERE a confident person! Keep a personal diary, write down what you think are some of the reasons. THEN... get yourself back together. Write down ALL you wonderful features (take your time and watch the list enlarge). Every time you do even the smallest effort to your road back to recovery, reward yourself ! There is only one you, and you must believe in yourself, be assertive, say no to situations when need be without feeling guilty ! Never let it bother you what people say...live for you. People talk about people all the time, good or bad, so never let that interfere with your confidence. AND, the more confident of a person you are, the more it shines through to other people :)

If you are confident of regaining your confidence, if at all it has been lost in transit, you will succeed!

Do the hard things first. Measure your success incrementally (in little steps), like writing a life plan. The success is in identifying your goal first, not reaching it immediately.
