Tex and crimp are important properties of yarn so they need to be measured to give buyers information on what type of fabric they are buying.

Tex is the weight in grams of 1,000 meters of a yarn, tow or roving (9 × tex=denier).

Fibre crimp is bending at cross overs and is greatest in plain weave fabrics, in which threads cross over at each intersection. These show the highest degree of stability. Crimp can be tested to check the value for the yarn - see websites below.
