What a Great Question...I suppose unless you are 110% determined to be a member of that unit, any training would be a killer....
There are two kinds of Civvy who join the Parachute Regiment, a civvy who want's to be a dead hard Para because that's what he's heard and the civvy who want's to be a Para because of family i.e Brother/ Dad or Uncle...Normally it's the committed who manage it the ones who family have served and want them to be there when they pass out Proudly wearing the Maroon Beret....

I would say but have no experience of the Royal Marines bar smackin a few, but I recon under the same means as above..

In the old days to join the SAS you had to ask your O.C for permission and he would take this to the C.O and then you would it would be decided on a assessment of your career in the unit if you should be recommended for selection. I have heard that now you can apply without C.O permission..Sad and even apply direct from civvy street....What has the world come too...

So in my opinion I would say that the Special Air Service induction was the toughest as to even grace there doors you had to be up to the grade to start with....

Special Air Service, or Special Boat Service, no doubts. The Delta force apparently America's elite, have actually done an exchange programme with the SAS and yes, they failed it. The SAS troopers pissed the Seals and Delta course. Ask any other nations soldiers the SAS are the most respected and most feared operatives in the world.

GRU spetsnaz training is toughest in world. Trainees are pursued by men firing live rounds at them and in ABC protection course real chemical weapons are used. On one exercise trainees are required to jump off iron bridge into river and swim to small island (with full equipment) which has way point. When I ask instructor 'what if man drowns while swimming' instructor say 'that means he is no good for spetsnaz'

the SAS without doubt the failure rate is extremly high even compared to marine commandos. The next would be the SBS both units are selecting men who usually come from elite units to start with and are still gruelling selection .The foreign legion doesnt qualify once you join your biggest problem is getting out so it cant have that large a failure rate.

For fighting I would give it to the Seals and SAS too close to call.

For those who are really out there I have to give it to the Air Force and their PJs. They do it to save lives and are the best at that.

Air Force also has a group of weatherman (yes weatherman) who poke around behind the lines getting weather information back.

To be fair they are all tough and deserve our respect.
