If your working in a bar, tattoo and body piercing parlor, music store, etc. a Mohawk would be appropriate. Anywhere else no. People make judgments based on appearances. IT may not be right, but it is reality. If you don't appear professional, people will not trust you and the business will suffer. That will have an effect on your continued employment. I always wear long sleeve shirts to work, because my arms are covered in tattoos.

From a professional standpoint, I would recommend losing the mohawk (possibly shaving head and going bald for a while).
I personally don't care what hair style a sales person has, as long as they know what they are talking about. However, there are some people (old school, yuppies, ultra-professionals) that make assumptions by how people carry and show themselves. You could be the friendliest person on the planet, but if people can't get past the hair, your commissions will be on the low side.
Seems like mohawks are OK for video sales people, mechanics and bikers (minimal customer interactions). But when a client is sitting down to a mohawk, shirt and tie behind a desk pitching a $5000.00 vacation, it would be tough to swallow for some.
Best of luck.

Sorry to say but, I think the mohawk should go. You're going on a professional level.

By your asking indicates to me you are uncertain. Until people start to know "you" they will judge you based on perception of you; this includes your appearance.
You'll be managing a team of people and although it's not "right" to judge you based on your hair, it will contribute to their perception of you.
Your uncertainty tells me that you should shave it off or go for a professional cut. Once you get "in" and get to know the office atmosphere better, then you can gauge if you can grow it back.

It depends on your employer's policy on appearance, but even if it is allowed by policy it would be unprofessional to keep such an unconventional hairstyle. First impressions are lasting impressions and that is important when dealing with customers and employees. I think that as a manager you should get a more generally accepted hairstyle.

My advice? grow it out to a fauxhawk or go totally bald and then fauxhawk out. People can be really conservative and/or judgemental and since you will be in a management position, it might be better if you at least start out looking a bit more conservative and then see how far you can "push it" with the clients, esp. if you have piercings and tats as well. I don't agree with it, but life is life and not everyone is open minded.

Mohawks are appropriate when working for a:
* rock band
* music store
* club
* independent movie theatre
* drug dealer
Mohawks are NOT appropiate for professional jobs such as travel centers... unless you're managing Peyote trips. (never go without a guide!)
Not saying that I agree with sterotypes or limiting one's right to express themselves... but this is just "the way things are" in the United States. You can either struggle to fight the system, or you adhere and live comfortably.
