I'm reading a novel set in the 1950s which mentions a Mavis bird singing. Is this bird extinct or does it now go by another name?

mavis is an old fashioned name for a blackbird I believe.

I only know this because my auntie Mavis told me. She hated the name so much she changed hers to Jackie.

Just checked and looks like I was half right.

Ferdi, Macon, Petri, Rico, Sunny, Sundance, or Sunflower (because he's yellow), Victor or Violet, some of these are not really boy names but I think they fit.
