i'm not saying my child is hyperactive but as a mother i do feel there is something wrong, if that's the right word to use.

Just the way she acts, her lack of concentration, play fighting which often gets quite 'violent' :s.

thanks for your answers though

My youngest was tested while in kindergarten, the teacher was not a help with this.
Have your child tested by a professional who knows what they are doing and not someone who pushes meds all the time. The therapist wanted to view my child in her school environment first before ever meeting her, this is when the teacher said no.
She tested positive for ADHD, we were lucky with diet and lessons in self control she stayed off meds until second grade when her teacher could not be bothered to help her focus.
She is now in fourth grade and doing well without meds, she seems to be able to keep herself on track most of the time.

Children -do- have lots of energy and sometimes seem hard to keep up with. However, certain things can be controlled before you go to a physician, such as sugar and caffeine consumption. It also takes reinforcing good behaviors and discouraging bad behaviors.
A behavioral complex is something which should be looked into if after dedicated parenting you are unsuccessful in reinforcing a quiet, self-controlled child. A 3-year old child should be able to quietly putter with a toy next to the pew in church and not disturb the public.

What makes you think it needs to be done? Young kids are loud, rowdy, and make you crazy-that is their job. they are learning about life and everything in it-you can't do that without getting down and dirty. If your child is 9-10 and is having problems at school that can't be corrected by exercise and a bit more challenge in his classes, then talk to your doctor. Until then no drugs please. People over use the term and the meds for ADHD in kids. We are sucking the "kiddness" right out of them.

If you think your child is genuinely AHAD and not just a bit over excited, try cutting out additives e numbers, preservatives. And give a children's omega 3 capsule.
If you suspect a child has AHAD give them coca-cola you may think this mad but if generally has it it should have an adverse effect on them and calm them down, as Ritalin (controversial medicine administered to AHAD suffers) Where as if we have cola or ritalin we may become hyper.

i would wait till they are older around 7-8. kids are hyper and full of energy when they are young. most of the time when parents bring them into a doctor they are just looking for something to calm the child down. most of them end up NOT haveing anything wrong with them. they are childern let them be and act like it
