Let's face it: the first birthday is a whole lot more about the parents than it is the baby. They don't remember it, and if they don't sleep through the experience, it usually doesn't excite them a great deal. I'd keep it a simple event, then let birthday 2 be the big bash.

Birthdays at that age are for the adults, not the kids. Best you can do is to get a bunch of friends together adn celebrate the way you want. HE won't really care what you do as long as he gets fed and changed.

It's better to do something small with family and friends. He's not going to remember his first birthday and is still too young to have too much stimulation. If you must, go to Chuckie Cheese, My Gym or similar place. Save the headaches for future birthdays.

For my son's 1st birthday we invited immediate family to the house for cake and Ice cream. I scheduled it for after his second nap, so he'd be in top shape...
I also made his cake from scratch and just for fun I did one of those cut to shape cakes...he didn't really understand what was going on, but it was a nice family time and he enjoyed the cake.

I just went to my niece's first birthday party, and in our family we try to get as many of us together as we can. my husband has a large family and it's times like these that we get to see everyone. invite family and friends that you're close with, and have them bring their children if they have them and just have party games (pinatas and pin the tail on the donkey are great for just about every kid). Maybe get a special cake from a bakery or make one that you know is a favorite. This is what we normally do. It gives you a chance to catch up with everyone and lots of great photo ops to make a scrap book or album for your little one to look back on when he gets older.

Well! an indoor birthday party will do. It'll be the best thing u've ever done for him ( U'll go everywhere but HOME is BEST). Plus take lots & lots of pictures, U know.... sweet memories( don't forget the one in which he's naked, it is special.)

Well, your son won't have a clue about it, will never remember it. It really doesn't matter what you do, as long as the grownups involved like it. I'd toast everyone who's helped you.
