People tend to phone or visit at dinner time because they know you'll be home around that time. I make it a rule to ignore all phone calls and door knocks while I'm sitting to eat.

Don't answer the door. If they ask you later why you weren't home, just say, "We were, but we were eating dinner and didn't want to be interupted." I think I would start practicing this as it sounds like you have rude relatives. I don't answer the phone or door when we are eating dinner. First of all, it's time for you and your loved one to catch up on the day's events and secondly, if you had wanted company for dinner you would have invited them.

Yep same thing with me when I was married every time I got ready to start dinner her parents would show up. I would be nice and offer them dinner, but after a while I would just go hungary. This totally drove me crazy the fact that her parents new when we ate dinner & still butted in. I guess some people just like to free load.

If this is family, then you need to set boundaries. You tell them that you would appeciate it if they would call first to see if they can come over because generally you only cook for two and feel put out that they come while you are already cooking. If they call ahead, then you will have enough time to prepare something more.

Tell them, we are eating dinner and don`t have enough to feed you. Let them make the next move. I have a policy call first to see if I`m available. That works both ways. Good Luck !!

These folks are very rude. It's is costing you money to feed these moochers.
Turn them away at the door. They are supposed to call first and see if it is OK to visit and what time is convenient for the host.

It seems rude on both sides, but it's not really your fault, it's not like you invited them. They're rude cause they showed up, you're being rude cause you don't have anything for them, although it's not your fault. I guess all you can do is yeah order pizza and try to lock the doors next time.

If this is becoming a habit with them dropping in at tea time, then I think you need to tell them that they have arrived at an inconvenient time, and would they mind taking a seat in the other room whilst you finish your dinner ... ... ... ...
